Conference of Big 5 School Districts Appoints Yonkers Board of Education President Rev. Steve Lopez Vice-Chairperson
In a media release from the Conference of Big 5 School Districts Reverend Steve Lopez, President of Yonkers Board of Education, was appointed to serve as Vice-Chairperson. His leadership term is effective July 1, 2020.

Mayor Spano Appoints Lakisha Collins-Bellamy, Esq. to Yonkers BOE
Mayor Mike Spano appointed Lakisha Collins-Bellamy, Esq. to serve a five-year term as a Trustee of the Yonkers Board of Education on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. She succeeds Dr. Edward Fergus, who was filling the unexpired term of former Trustee Edgar Santana.

Trustees Unanimously Elect Rev. Lopez & Ms. Ramos Meier to Lead Board of Education
At the 139th Annual Meeting of the Yonkers Board of Education, held by video conferencing because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Trustees re-elected Rev. Steve Lopez and Ms. Judith Ramos Meier to serve as president and vice-president respectively. Both will serve one-year terms in their leadership posts.

Spring Break Canceled. Distance Learning & More Continue.
The Governor’s Executive Order requires all schools in the state to remain closed until April 15, 2020, at least. It also requires Districts to continue distance learning, meals, and childcare during any remaining vacation or snow days, including the upcoming Spring Recess.

Yonkers Public Schools Emergency Continuity Plans
While there are no confirmed cases of Coronavirus Disease in our schools at this time, we must be prepared. The Yonkers Public Schools Emergency Health and Facilities Management Plan is being supplemented by a Contingency Instructional Plan that will provide students with 14 days of lessons for every grade level.

Superintendent Provides State Legislators With Solutions to Close Budget Gap

He addressed head-on the structural budget constraints which sabotage Yonkers ability to sustain educational programs and the personnel required to deliver them. Dr. Quezada offered a four-point plan for sustainable recurring revenue to maintain outstanding academic outcomes for all students - and to close the persistent budget gap.
